Claudius "Ptolemy" Ptolemaeus was an Icons-flag-eg.png Egyptian-born but Icons-flag-gr.png Greco-Roman astronomer, one of the notable historical astronomers.

Solar System concept[edit]

Ptolemy proposed to Solar System's structure to have Earth at the center, with the following astronomical bodies orbiting it in terms of increasing distance:

Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Sirius, Stars.

His concept was later corrected by Nicolaus Copernicus, a Icons-flag-pl.png Polish mathematician, who suggested that the Earth was a planet and the Sun was at the center of our Solar System.
