Daniel Fenton «Danny» Lorraine is a major character from the children's sitcom Martha Speaks. He is related to the titular protagonist of Danny Phantom.[1] He is the father of Helen and Jake Lorraine, and the adopted father of Martha Lorraine. He is usually a serious and stern character, but at times can be a bit of a jokester.

Name[edit]

Originally named Daniel Finney[3] in the books, his surname was changed to Lorraine, possibly after children's author Walter Lorraine who worked with Susan Meddaugh.[2]

Appearance[edit]

He is white, has red hair, and is stereotypical of most Caucasian Canadians. He has several occupations, so his appearance usually varies. He wears red and white striped pajamas.

Details[edit]

He is a bus driver and an actor[4] who has roles in the community theater.[5][6] He often sings around the house, and his personality is immature.[4] There are several examples of this: In the episode Bye Bye Burger Boy, he was trying to order six burgers, three large chips, and one large salad at a fictional fast-food chain. In the episode Martha's Dirty Habit, when he tries to give up his eating addiction and Martha stop digging, he sighs when his son Jake eats his cookie. Daniel bites his lip and sweats when he sees an advertisement for chocolate; later, he tries to get a cookie, but when he sees Martha, he then puts the lid back on the cookies and sighs.[7] In the episode Martha's Steamed, he throws up ice cream he was eating due to one of Helen's friends placing his shoes in the freezer above the tub of ice cream. Additionally, he is also obsessed with Martha's singing.[8]

Birth[edit]

Danny was born to parents Lucille and Bernard Lorraine, on September 12, 1975, in Winnipeg, Canada.[citation needed] However, he resides in Wagstaff City, which is heavily based on Flagstaff, Arizona.[9][dead link]

Voice[edit]

In the English dub, he is voiced by the Canadian actor Brian Drummond, who was also an actor in several Japanese animated franchises (anime) including Dragon Ball Z. In the Hebrew dub, he is voiced by Israeli actor Dan Schatzberg, who also plays voice acting roles in other children's shows.[10]
